WELCOME!

I’m so pleased you decided to take this Origami Basics Mini-Course! Origami is about joy, creativity, and most importantly, the magic of creating meaningful connections with other people, young and old.

ARE YOU NEW TO ORIGAMI?

If you are new to origami, this course will provide you with your paper-folding wings and help you understand the vocabulary of folding paper including how to choose paper and follow directions from books or videos. You have here all the fundamentals you need to get started including:

  • Paper selection to use for origami.
  • What are the symbols found in origami diagrams and how to perform the action they represent.
  • How to fold some of the classic origami bases from which you can fold dozens of figures.
  • How to read and follow a sailboat from diagrams so that you can develop and improve your skill and confidence when working from books.

If you are just getting started I suggest starting with “What’s the best paper for origami?”

ARE YOU MORE EXPERIENCED?

If you are a more experienced folder you might be more interested in going straight to these models. The sailboat model on the left is a design by Marc Kirschenbaum. Rose in a Star, on the right, is one of my designs and is based on a traditional model. Click the model you’d like to fold.
